Searle develops a theory of imagination that explores the contributions scripture can make to new ways of thinking about creativity, reading, interpretation and criticism. The biblical text locates imagination in the heart (the eyes of the heart, Eph 1:18). The author explores current theological understandings of the imagination and their implications within the field of literary studies.
It will be many years before this ceases to be the most authoritative work in the field.
