There are many environmental bodies, but the missing element is hope. Working from solid Christian foundations, A Rocha has achieved impressive results in many secular contexts, preserving threatened sites and campaigning for changes in farming and industrial practices. Their insistence on the value of the created order proves palatable to many different cultures.
A Rocha is the brainchild of Peter Harris, who from bases in Portugal, then France, has planted (to date) 16 independent branches in countries as diverse as Peru, Kenya and Canada. The US branch is currently being developed with support from Eugene Peterson. Peter delightfully blends his personal story with that of A Rocha, describing how a passionately-held vision has impacted on his wife and family.
